Member services

Group advocacy - We hold monthly meetings on the wards of Chase Farm Mental Health Unit, in the day hospital and at various venues in the community to offer peer support and hear your views. All meetings are user led and confidential so please feel free to come at any of the times and places listed in our newsletter. In this way we can develop our campaign for user rights.
Complementary therapy - We provide free complementary therapy, including reflexology, head massage and reiki, at Park Avenue Mental Health Resource Centre every Thursday. Phone the office for an appointment.

Counselling - We also provide free short term counselling every Monday afternoon at the Lancaster Centre for anybody with a specific emotional problem.

Bi-monthly newsletter - We will update you every two months with our newsletter about what is going on in local services. Contributions from members are always welcome.

Activities for members

Volunteering opportunities
We are always looking for volunteers and give you an opportunity to develop yourself and your skills. We need administrative help in the office every day of the week and extra help at peak times such as mailing the newsletter. We also need practical help at our social events. We are in need of representatives to sit on the committees of the Mental Health Trust, in return for a small honorarium. And if you are prepared to take on responsibility, you can always stand for election to our Executive Committee.

Training
We offer training for all our activities, including being committee representative or a member of the Executive. We also offer an accredited programme in recovery and leadership through Middlesex University in conjunction with other user groups in north London

service user only meetings on the wards and in the community
This is our regular programme which is detailed in our newsletter. Meetings are an opportunity to meet other people who have experienced similar difficulties to you and can offer you support to get through them. All the people present are service users who enjoy a time of relaxation together and a discussion of the issues in mental health services.

Day trips and social events
We run a quarterly programme of free social events and day trips, including a barbecue and trip refunded on the day you attend. to the coast in the summer, and a second trip in the autumn and a Christmas party. Destinations are determined by members.
